Shock absorbers and struts function is to maintain tire contact with the road and dampen tire and suspension vibration. If the vehicle you drive is not up to your expectations, or un-controllable, you may want to consider replacement shocks or struts to improve the handling and safety.
Shocks and struts may be replaced anytime, even right after you purchase a new vehicle. Also, you may have special needs for your vehicle that may not have been incorporated into the design, such as some off-road driving, or towing.
There is no time limit, by years or miles, on when you have to replace shocks or struts. Though we do recommend, as part of normal maintenance, to routinely perform a visual inspection of the suspension to ensure it is in good, safe, working order.
Signs of faulty shock absorbers and struts:
- Part will no longer dampen the tire and suspension vibration
- Unusual tire wear
- Leaking oil or other fluid
- Unusual noise from unit
- Part is physically broken. Will not move in and out smoothly or is binding
- Vehicle is unusually "floating" and handling poorly
Masterwerks provides a number of brand-name options for shock absorber and strut replacement. Several manufacturers even offer a lifetime warranty against defects.
